Emma Gauffin has been running her own studio atelier since 1993, developing bespoke designs for both stage and screen. She is a much appreciated costume designer, a true artist mastering the entire process of creating characters and costumes. The long experience gives her a unique sense of interpretation, supporting production, direction and actors with the project's visions, and the ability to put together a team for any possible purpose, large or small. For her, planning, research and craftsmanship are keywords.
In expressing realism or elaborate costumes for any genre or period of time, Emma has an extensive knowledge of the industry, materials and techniques. Skilled in her crafts and a full career starting from studies in art history, production design, tailoring and couture, through theater, dance and as a design consultant in the early days of the Swedish fashion industry boom, all leading to today’s focus on designing costumes for feature film and tv-series,
”For as long as I can remember, I have always been curious and fascinated about film characters. What they were wearing, why, and how do you go about making these garments.
What was it that made the costumes work with the actors and the drama and what was wrong when it did not. How do you enhance a mood through colours and materials and light?
Working together with the production team, directors and actors and all the creatives and craftsmen is a bliss. It is all in the details and the teamwork, bringing authentic design to the screen, explore ideas, telling the stories and tales of real life”
